WHAT ARE PEPTIDES

Focused on Understanding

Peptides are naturally occurring biological molecules that are made up of different combinations of amino acids similar to proteins.  The difference is peptides are smaller and are made from 2-50 amino acids whereas proteins are larger, made from 50+ amino acids.  Peptides are found in all living organisms and play a key role in all manner of biological activity.   To date, they have been more than 7000 different peptides identified in the human body!  Like proteins, peptides are formed (synthesized) naturally from the transcription of the genetic code.  There are 20 naturally-occurring amino acids and, like letters into words, they can be combined into an immense variety of different molecules, each combination acting as a specific key to perform a very specific action.   As we age a large number of peptides continually decrease in number, accelerating the aging process and increasing disease state.   Previously the rate at which we age on a cellular level has been largely left up to fate, but now we have the understanding and technology to utilize specific peptides to literally turn back the clock on a cellular and genetic level.
